Pilgrimage to Tamil Nadu

The last 3 days were religious,spiritual,awe-inspiring,fun filled and a little tiring(the journey).
my orthopaedics internals had got over on thursday, it had gone okay....
my parents,sister,myself,3 members of a neighborhood family and a friend of father left for om shakthi in tamil nadu, in a toyota qualis, on thursday night. we reached the place on friday morning and visited the temple. had breakfast at a nearby restaurant...
went to pondicherry then, lazed around a bit on the beach.
left for chidambaram next, was quite a nice place.

next stop-karaikal . we lodged there for the night and visited the temple there the next morning, the temple of shri shaneswara the Saturn God. visited the beach there too-this was the fun filled part of the journey, the beach was almost devoid of people(it was almost noon). collected some shells-this is the first time i did this... a bit of splashing in the water and it was time to go again...
off to kumbukonam- place of 7 temples -alas all were closed. we reached there around 12.40 pm. i couldn't believe they were all closed so soon...more such disappointments were soon to follow...

it was time to go to our next destination-the famed thanjavur. had lunch at a good hotel-restaurant, reminded me of Bangalore this hotel. next to the great temple built by the cholas. the sanctum sanctorium was closed here as well, we were too early i think, it would open at 5.00 pm, we were there by 4, too bad.
that did not stop us from admiring the awe inspiring architecture, huge, tall walls, beautiful sculptures, simply amazing. the bull at the entrance is supposed to be one of the biggest in India.
time to go to trichy- we went to the sri rangam temple there, the reclining pose of the Lord in all his splendor was there for all to admire.

next to the Lord Ganesh and Lord Shiva temple atop the hill in trichy, called the rockfort ucchi pillayar temple. we were desperate to see the Lord Ganesh temple, we had visited this place before 2 years back, the sanctum is right atop the rock and the deity looks resplendent. the view on offer from the top of the whole town and sri rangam is simply stunning, they even allowed us to look through a telescope last time. not wanting to miss all this, we almost ran up the innumerable steps leading to the top and and got lead to the Lord Shiva sanctum part of the rock. by the time we retraced our steps to the entrance of the Lord Ganesh sanctum, the person sitting at the entrance informed us that the entry is not permitted beyond 8 pm. it was 8.05 pm then. we could still see people pouring out of the exit, our countless requests to just have a look were turned down, and we had to retrace our steps back to the bottom of the rock, our hearts sinking as well. we had been delayed for more then 20 min for not finding a proper place to park the car before ascending the rock....alas! if only......
we decided there would be another time to come back to this great place, if only to just see this magnificent temple.... yes, it would have to be on another occasion.
time for dinner, a small sad dinner. off to Bangalore then...
just when we all the drama and disappointments were over, there was a traffic jam in the middle of the highway at 3.oo am in the morning, unbelievable....we got delayed for more than 45 min and at last reached namma Bengaluru at 7.30 in the morning...did not do much yesterday, slept from 12 noon to 6.30 in the evening, hadn't had much sleep the previous few nights you see....
saw our Bangalore royal challengers play in an ipl match, the royal challengers won- a happy moment at last....
not a bad trip at all, in fact i am feeling sad that it all had to come to an end so soon, it had to because i had college today....
wonder when i will get to go on such a trip again..................
