Bangalore Royal Challengers Won!

Image
well, our orthopaedics postings have got over after a 4 week posting. the 2 internals have been done and dusted.... the internals in instruments and x-rays were held on friday, were okay. watched the bangalore royal challengers v/s deccan chargers match yesterday, at last the royal challengers won a match at home, barely though! it was a closely contested match and took some fine last 2 balls from the bangalore boy(or man!) Anil Kumble for the bangaloreans to scrape through for a 3 run win, the narrowest of margins yet in the tournament! feeling a little unwell from yesterday morning, have right maxillary sinusitis from what i make of my symptoms and signs! anyway, today i am relaxing, have no plans of studying anything.... am posting this not knowing what to do now, maybe i will watch a movie!

Rarest of rare cases

Image
a couple of days ago, we came across a case of congenital shortening of middle phalanges of the medial 4 fingers and the lateral 4 toes(the great toe`s and thumb`s proximal phalanges were shortened). it was one of the rarest cases according to our professor- he had never seen such a case and it has not even been mentioned in our books. it was a 6 year old girl who presented with deformed fingers and toes with difficulty in moving them. she could not write properly, but could walk alright. on x-ray, the shortened phalanges were detected. the deformity of the index finger did look like the one in the above x-ray, but i am not sure whether the above x-ray shows any shortening of phalanges.... our professor told her parents that nothing could be done right now, but maybe after the epiphyses have fused, prostheses may be tried....

Orthopaedics

it has been 1 week now since orthopaedics postings started and we have only presented 2(almost 2 , only 1 properly) cases. the proper case was a case of secondary osteomyelitis, secondary to an infected implant. the other half presented case was a case of avascular necrosis of the femoral head, we couldn`t diagnose this clinically, it was an x-ray diagnosis. today was another holiday, the birthday of our constitution maker, a great person he was. also, another festival for us -Ram Navami. with internals in orthopaedics coming up in 3 days, i havent studied enough, starting to get a little anxious. i am off to a small nap now!!!

its Ugadi our new year!

got up quite late today also, even though its the beginning of our Hindu new year. hope i don't keep doing the same thing. tried to read something in orthopedics(postings start from tomorrow), got bugged and closed the book within 10 minutes. just lazing around now, don`t know what to do. watched the golden compass yesterday, pretty good animation!
