Day out on a bundh!

well,it's hard work being a doctor-you have to go to the hospital even on bharath bundh! i decided to use the public transport today as our bmtc buses were supposed to ply despite the bundh;i also thought it would be safer to travel in a bus than a two wheeler today. i had so much confidence that i even bought a daily pass when i got a bus in the morning-call it over confidence..... it was actually very pleasing to see our bangalore roads so empty and the weather was pretty cool too today; i reached the hospital 10 minutes late as i had not got a bus quickly enough.... in the hospital itself,i think there was 50% attendance! a cool morning started turning into an irritating afternoon-i had noticed that only one bus had gone through the road in front of our hospital since morning.... when it was time to leave, i saw that the auto drivers were having a field day.... i trudged back to the great k.r.market bus stand to find one police van parked there and nothing else! i finally ha

terror in the country

so much has happened in the past 1 and a 1/2 weeks.... first up, my medicine theory internals went alright i think. its the 2 days before that internals that caught the attention of the whole nation and even the events that keep getting reported in newspapers even now that are gripping the country by fear! i had never imagined that bombs would go off in our beloved bangalore, the always-safe place to be in the country.... i have spent most of my life till now in this calm, peaceful city. it took some time to actually believe that blasts did occur. i had received an sms saying that 4 blasts occurred in the city, stay where you are, dont visit crowded places, etc from a friend and also that this was not a joke. after i read that, i thought it was a joke and as i was at home then ,switched on the tv. lo, behold all the news channels reporting blasts going off one after another till the count reached 9,in one channel, most others reported 8 blasts. by the time i had come to terms with this n

World Health Day

almost forgot, its also the world health day today. i think this year`s theme is quite appropriate in these days- climate change and its effect on health its high time people started taking notice about the effects climate has on health and climate which is in turn being affected by our activities. i, myself , live in quite a populated and polluted city, the effects of pollution have already occurred in Bangalore. it was once called a naturally air conditioned city, anyone who comes to this city now will say its anything but air conditioned. unseasonal rains, unnatural temperatures,....its all happening. the effects are also being felt on the health of the people, don't think we have a very healthy population here....don`t know the exact statistics....
